Ever tried playing basketball with a deflated ball? At first, you might not even realize it’s flat. You take a shot, and it falls short. You try to dribble, but the ball barely bounces. You keep pushing, thinking maybe you just need to try harder, throw it higher, move faster. But no matter what you do, the ball just isn’t working the way it should.
Sound familiar?
Some seasons of life feel like that; like you’re putting in all the effort, doing all the right things, but nothing is clicking. The momentum isn’t there. The results aren’t coming. And you start wondering if it’s you. If you’re just not good enough, strong enough, determined enough.
But what if the problem isn’t you? What if you’re just holding onto something that no longer works?
The Year of the Snake: Shedding What No Longer Serves You
2025 is the Year of the Snake, a time of transformation, shedding old layers, and stepping into something new. Snakes don’t carry their old skin around once it stops serving them; they shed it and move on. And sometimes, we need to do the same.
If you’ve been feeling stuck, (like me… if you hadn’t pick up on the theme…) maybe the problem isn’t that you need to try harder; it’s that you need to let go.
When to Stop Playing With a Deflated Ball
It’s not Bouncing Back. If no matter how much effort you put in, nothing is shifting, it might be time to reassess. Are you forcing something that’s no longer meant for you?
You’re Drained, Not Inspired. Challenges can be energizing when they’re leading somewhere. But if something is only exhausting you, maybe it’s not a challenge; it’s a sign.
The Game Has Changed: Sometimes what worked before no longer fits. If you’re growing, evolving, and shifting, but your environment isn’t, it may be time to pivot.
Drop the Ball and Find a New One
Letting go isn’t quitting; it's recognizing when something has run its course. It is realizing that you deserve a ball that actually bounces, a path that actually moves you forward, a challenge that actually grows you instead of drains you.
So if you are out there, still hustling, still pushing, still trying to make something work that just isn’t maybe it’s time to stop. Maybe it’s time to shed, pivot, and step into something that actually fits the person you’re becoming.
Because life isn’t about proving you can play with a deflated ball. It’s about finding the right game, the right tools, and the right energy to move you forward.
The best is yet to come. Time to let go and make room for it.
